Niger State: 15 Children Put In Chains Rescued By Police

About 15 children have been rescued from the hands of one Umar Ahmed in the Anguwan Gwari Suleja area by officers of the Niger State Police Command.

Umar was said to have taken the children into custody under the pretence of coaching them in an Almajiri school but was all the while keeping them in inhumane conditions.

The rescue was announced by the state command's spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, who said that Umar was arrested by officers of the 'A' Division Suleja based on "reliable information."

“On July 18, at about 2 pm, acting on reliable information received, Police Operatives attached to ‘A’ Division Suleja arrested one Umar Ahmed aged 46.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the children who are of ages ranging between 2-10 years were on several occasions, physically abused by the suspect which made them to have scars all over their bodies.”

Abiodun said that Umar kept the children in chains whenever they were errant.

He also added that the kids had been transferred to the Niger State Child Right Agency until the investigation into the matter is concluded.
