Nigeria May Get COVID-19 Vaccines In 10 Days – FG

The Federal Government has said that Nigeria may get COVID-19 vaccines in 10 days.

This was disclosed through the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire in Lagos on Saturday at the end of his inspection tour of the Lagos University Hospital, Idi-Araba.

“We are told that by the end of this month, which is about 10 days from now, we shall get the vaccines.

“We do not produce the vaccines. They are manufactured abroad in about four or five countries.”

Ehanire noted that the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Russia and China, who had succeeded in producing the vaccines, had granted licenses to other countries to reproduce them.

The Minister added that “South Africa has a licence to make the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines, while Russia only recently gave India the licence to produce AstraZeneca.’

He noted that countries that produce the vaccines had serious challenges with COVID-19 and decided to see to their own needs first. This is what the World Health Organization had described as vaccine nationalism.

Ehanire said while the whole world suffered the grip of COVID-19, about 95 percent of the vaccines already produced were being used in 10 countries.

He stressed that Nigeria had put all facilities in place to receive the vaccines.
