At the event which was held at the National Defense College in Abuja, the Minister of Defense, Major General Bashir Magashir, emphasized the imperative of kinetic measures to address the current security challenges in the country.
Magashi, who declared the summit open, assured that the present government is working hard to restore stability in the country, and all possible approaches would be explored to make that possible.
The Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, on his part, said that the objective of the summit was to promote the buy-in of all stakeholders and create more awareness on the use of kinetic operations among other factors.
For more than a decade now, Nigeria has been in a battle with the insurgency which has killed over 36,000 innocents and displaced hundreds of thousands in the northeastern part of the country.

The Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) split from the Boko Haram jihadist group in 2016, and had since, became a dominant threat to security of lives of property in Nigeria, the group attacks troops and bases, killing and kidnapping passengers at bogus checkpoints.
On March 1, the terrorist group burnt down a United Nations humanitarian compound in the town of Dikwa, after dislodging troops, killing six civilians.
The ISWAP violence has spread to neighbouring Chad, Cameroon and Niger, resulting in a regional military coalition to fight the insurgents.
