The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Friday announced that it has arrested 1,346 suspects for various violent crimes across the country in the past five weeks. 

This is contained in a statement signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson on Friday.

According to the statement, the surge in arrests comes under the leadership of Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who is committed to making Nigeria safer for all citizens.

"As part of the ongoing drive to safeguard the country from the activities of criminal elements. The Nigeria Police Force has made salient achievements in combating crimes across the country.

“The breakdown of the arrests includes, 385 armed robbery suspects, 238 kidnapping suspects, 341 murder/homicide suspects, 87 suspects linked to unlawful possession of prohibited firearms, 143 rape suspects, and 151 cultism suspects.

“The NPF has also recovered a significant amount of stolen goods, including; 143 firearms of various calibres, 741 ammunition, and 72 stolen vehicles.

“These efforts have led to the rescue of 461 kidnapped victims,” the statement added.

The statement emphasized NPF commitment to improving officer welfare, believing it directly affects service delivery and crime prevention.
