The Nigerian Government has expressed outrage over the abuse of an official at its embassy in Indonesia by immigration Officials.

Speaking on Tuesday at a press briefing, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama expressed displeasure over the act.

“There was absolutely no justification whatsoever for this kind of behaviour against not only a Nigerian diplomat but any Nigerian at all," Onyeama said. "It was totally unacceptable."

The Minister further stated that the Nigerian authority has decided to recall (for consultations immediately), the Nigerian ambassador in Jakarta, Indonesia.

"We will have full consultations at the highest level and decide what next steps to take including a review of our relations with Indonesia," the minister added.

The unnamed diplomat was assaulted when he was arrested by immigration officials on Saturday in front of his home in the country.

A video of the incident shows three men in a car assaulting the officer, despite him screaming for help.

The Minister further explained that the arrest and abuse of its official violated international law and an agreement reached in Vienna on diplomacy and relations between the two countries.

The Indonesian Embassy in Nigeria had apologized in a statement yesterday.
