The Federal Ministry of Health has assured that Nigeria will implement the national oral health policy in 2020.
Head of Dentistry Division, Dr Bola Alonge gave the assurance in an interview in Abuja with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to her, the implementation was designed to help reduce oral related diseases in Nigeria while stressing that on completion, the policy will produce the 2020 national oral health policy.
This, she said, would be ready before the next National Council on Health in June 2020.
Dr Bola said that since the 2012 national oral policy, the government has conducted several researches.
In an attempt to solve oral related problems, the ministry is currently partnering with Colgate and Unilever.
Oral diseases have affected a large population of people globally. It is one of the most common non-communicable diseases, with cases of tooth decay among permanent teeth and primary teeth common conditions.
Certain oral conditions like oral cancer can be prevented by avoiding tobacco, sexually communicable diseases, smoked fish, diet deficiency, alcohol and more.
