Nigerian Breweries Top NSE Gainers, MTN Top Losers

The Nigerian Stock Exchange market closed with 4,367 deals on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, lower than the 4,736 deals it closed with on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. The volume reached 326.57 million units at the close of the market on Wednesday, higher than the 297.31 million units it closed with on Tuesday.

The value of trades recorded on Wednesday was NGN4,224 billion, higher than the NGN2,926 billion of Tuesday. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the All-Share Index reached 28,449.49 index points.

The stock market also ended with a NGN14,870 trillion equity capitalisation on Wednesday, lower than the 14,983 trillion recorded on Tuesday.

Top Five Gainers

Nigerian Breweries led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained NGN0.5 kobo to close trading at NGN52 per share after opening today's trading with NGN51.5 kobo per share, according to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) market data seen by AllNews.

Port Paint was second on the table, as its stock price gained 2.50% to close the market with NGN2.05 per share, having started trading today with NGN2 per share.

Wapic was the third top gainer as its stock price closed the market with a 10.00% gain to move from the opening price of NGN0.4 kobo per share to NGN0.44 kobo per share. UAC Property follows, closing the market with a gain of 1.23% to end trading with NGN0.82 kobo per share from the opening share price of NGN0.81 kobo per share.

Aso Savings was last on the top five gainers' table after its share price stabilised at NGN0.5 kobo per share to close trading at NGN0.5 kobo per share, after not gaining anything.

Top Five Losers

On the top of the losers' list is MTN Nigeria, which had begun trading earlier today at NGN140 per share, only to drop in price by NGN-2 to close at NGN138 per share at the end of trading today.

Guinness was second on the chart after closing at NGN17 per share from its opening trade price of NGN16 per share; this represents a drop of NGN-1. Wapco also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by NGN-0.8 kobo to close trading at NGN17.3 kobo per share, below the NGN18.1 kobo per share it opened with.

Ardova also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by NGN-0.8 kobo to close trading at NGN11.9 kobo per share, below the NGN12.7 kobo per share it opened with. Julius Berger completed the top five losers chart after it closed trading with NGN16.8 kobo per share, declining by NGN-0.55 kobo from the NGN17.35 per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were UBA, which traded a volume of over 40.29 million units worth NGN272.15 million. Zenith Bank was the second most traded stock today with over 39.60 million units worth over NGN800.93 million. GTBank was next on the list, trading 38.19 million units worth NGN1.14 billion.

Transcorp was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 31.18 million units traded at a cost of over NGN18.71 million, while First Bank completed the top five list with over 29.96 million units traded today, worth NGN181 million.
