Nigerian Firm Cabtree, GACN, CarbonAi Join Forces For Decarb

Cabtree Consulting, a Nigerian firm, the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria (GACN), and CarbonAi, a Canadian company, have committed to work together to decarbonise Nigeria's oil and gas industry.

This was revealed in a statement made jointly by Tayo Rhodes-Vivour, a representative of GACN, Stephen Entwisle of Carbon Ai, and Olabode Oma-Show of Cabtree Consulting on the sidelines of the ongoing World Petroleum Congress (WPC) on Thursday in Calgary, Canada.

According to the announcement, the collaboration will provide insights into how Canada navigated decarbonization of its oil and gas operations, and how Nigeria could benefit from it.

Additionally, it stated that speakers and panels from government, regulatory, and business organisations from both nations will participate in the event and explore how Nigeria may benefit from Canada's current successes in decarbonizing oil and gas operations.

The occasion would allow the two nations to work together and help Nigeria's oil and gas industry achieve the same success.

According to the announcement, the discussion themes at the event would include, among other things, capacity building, overcoming obstacles to attracting investment, and lessons gained from the Canadian experience.

“CarbonAi was the hosting a social gathering for members of the Nigerian contingent, as well as representatives of Canadian government, regulators and industry, at the CarbonAi offices.

“Nigerian attendees at both events would have a chance to share their objectives, challenges and successes with Canadian industry experts.

“And to learn more about regulations, technologies and practices that have been successfully implemented to reduce GHGs in Canadian oil and gas.

“The evening allowed for some networking and also featured brief presentations on current and planned Nigeria-Canada collaborations,” the  statement said.

They claimed that CarbonAi offers full-cycle services for reducing GHG emissions, including project financing, design, and construction as well as the quantification, verification, and sale of the emission reduction credits produced as a result.

“It has also developed a cloud-based platform for the aggregation, quantification, verification and sale of GHG-reduction assets.

“CarbonAi is focused on flare gas elimination projects in Africa, with a special focus on Nigeria.

“The company has finalised one project agreement in Nigeria, as well as an MoU with Oando Energy Resources and an MoU in principle with another indigenous producer.

“CarbonAi Solutions has also completed an MoU with Oando Clean Energy to aggregate and manage data for an EV Bus pilot in Lagos, ” it added.

The firm and the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria (REA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in October 2022 to fund and develop small-scale solar energy projects in that nation's unserved and underserved communities.
