Nigerian Forward Boniface Claims Season's Europa Top Scorer

Bayer Leverkusen and Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has claimed the top scorer award in last season's UEFA Europa League.

The 22-year-old, who finished joint top scorer with Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, was presented with the award before kickoff of Leverkusen's 5-1 thrashing of Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Boniface scored six goals in the competition while playing for Belgian club Union St Gilloise last term.

He then switched to Leverkusen in the summer, where has already won the Bundesliga Player of the Month award and was voted the best young player in the German top flight in September.

The Nigerian striker has already registered two goals and an assist in three outings for Die Werkself in Europe’s second-tier club competition this season.

He is expected to play a pivotal role for his club in the Bundesliga as they compete with reigning champions Bayern Munich for the league title this season.
