Nigerian Forward Taiwo Awoniyi Completes Club-Record Fee To

Premier League newbie Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin for a club-record fee in the region of  £17.5 million.

Awoniyi was the 6th highest scorer in the Bundesliga for the 2021-22 season with 20 goals in all competitions -- helping Berlin finish 5th in the German league.

He has signed a 5-year deal with Nottingham which puts him at the club till 2027 if the former European Champions can keep a spot in the top flight at the end of the season.

He became the first signing for Nottingham with Dean Henderson's transfer from Manchester United on the horizon.

“It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League and having spoken to [head coach] Steve Cooper about our ambitions and looking at Forest, with its great history, it’s a club that I want to be part of.”

Awoniyi had enjoyed loan spells at Frankfurt, NEC, Mouscron, Gent and Mainz before joining Union Berlin on loan during the 2020/21 season. He signed permanently for Union Berlin in July 2021.
