Nigerian Government Plots Military Assault To Eliminate Terrorist Groups In The North

Nigerian Government Plots Military Assault To Eliminate Terr

The federal government is reportedly preparing for a concerted military assault on northern insurgents who threaten to make the region ungovernable.

According to a Bloomberg report, Governors from the northern part of Nigeria are meeting with the country's defense intelligence agencies to make plans for how to get rid of these terrorists, the governor of Kaduna state said Thursday.

He explained that methods being studied include simultaneous military operations, reconnaissance, force concentration, and ground operations.

The first traces of social, political, and religious instability started when, in 2009, an Islamist insurgency known as Boko Haram went on a mission to destabilize the northeastern region of the country.

Because of its partnership with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the group has now spread its operations to the whole north and added a little bit to the south.

The region is not only dealing with how to overcome the menace of the Islamic terrorist organization but also dealing with a new threat of banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping, and rape that has become a destabilizing force in the wheel of progress and growth of the region.

El-Rufai's reassuring statement comes as the country prepares for presidential elections in early 2023, and a last-ditch effort to eliminate the threat of insecurity bedeviling the region. Since he became the president of the most populated country in Africa, he has been unable to achieve his 2015 campaign manifesto of eliminating the terrorist group.

He reassured Nigerians that the militants would be apprehended soon.

He stated, "We believe we have reached a tipping point where we will see the end of this."
