Nigerian Government Will Not Succumb To Blackmail — Lauret

Following the crisis that trailed the reopening of Lekki tollgate on Saturday, the Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie said the Nigerian government was elected to serve all Nigerians so will not succumb to blackmail as dictated by a few.

Onochie made this known via her official Twitter page on Sunday while reacting to comments from Nigerians after the police force arrested some protester at the Lekki toll gate, Lagos.

AllNews had earlier reported that Mr Macaroni, a comedian, was arrested in Lekki Tollgate alongside others in the early hours of Saturday over their involvement in the demonstration.

Protesters tagged #OccupyLekkiTollGate had refused to shelve planned protest against the reopening of Lekki toll gate despite the presence of armed police officers and warnings from the government.

Macaroni joined the protest against the planned reopening of the Lekki toll gate following the alleged killing of protesters on October 20, 2020 and he was arrested and humiliated alongside others. This has led to a lot of reactions from Nigerians and media personality stating their stance on the Federal Government's move.

"There's nowhere in the world where alleged "crime scenes" that serve the public, are closed down permanently Numerous youth are also affected daily by the Tollgate closure.

Meanwhile, in another post, she praised the Nigerian police for their level of professionalism at the Lekki tollgate protest.

She wrote, "Kudos to the @PoliceNG  for the professional manner it operated at Lekki yesterday. Nobody was hurt Best of all, no Police officer was killed nor roasted and eaten.

"We must applaud you for doing well so that you can take our criticisms of your shortcomings in good faith. Thank you.
