Nigerian Idol: Nigerians Drag Seyi Shay Over Harsh Judgement

Nigerian singer-songwriter, Seyi Shay, is currently being dragged on the micro-blogging platform, Twitter, over the berating comment she threw at a 17-year-old male contestant, identified as Ayo Torrus.

Torrus was a contestant during the Sunday edition of the Nigerian idol audition. After his audition, Seyi Shay was unimpressed with his performance.

In her judgment, Seyi Shay said that the teenager is a terrible performer and will not make money out of singing. She specifically told him to quit singing and focus more on songwriting.

In her words, "Somebody lied to you. Somebody told you to come here and audition. You should go back and tell them that they aren't your friend because that was not a good audition.

"You have a sweet-talking voice and it comes out in your singing voice but your performance is terrible. You are never going to make money being a singer. I love you, you are so sweet but you are not a singer. You are not a singer.

"For songwriting, hit me up, we could talk but that singing, it is not going to work. Sorry, Darling."

Shortly after her judgment, netizens took to Twitter to bash her over the comment which they felt was too harsh and damaging to Torrus'ss self-esteem.

Some trolls went as far as saying that the singer should not even be a judge on a music show because she has a flopped music career.

In response to the criticism, Seyi Shay wrote via her Twitter:

Nigerian Idol Season 6 was premiered on Sunday, March 14 on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv channel 29 from 6 pm.

The show is hosted by popular media personality IK Osakioduwa, and singer Seyi Shay is the creative entrepreneur. Obi Asika and celebrity DJ Sose are the judges. The winner of this season will go home with a recording contract with a prominent record label and N50 million worth of prizes.
