Ahead of the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, October 10, Rotimi Akeredolu the Executive Governor of Ondo State has declared Friday, October 9 work-free day.

2. COVID-19 in Nigeria Hits Over 59,000 As NCDC Records 103 New Infections

COVID-19 cases in Nigeria hit 59,841 as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on the 8th of October 2020 confirmed 103 new infections.

3. CBN Denies Fraudulent Loans, Investment Schemes Targeting SMEs, Loan Seekers

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has alerted Nigerians about fraudulent loan schemes that are targeting loan seekers in the country. Perpetrators of the fraudulent loan schemes are using videos and messages to lure Nigerians and defraud them.

5. Ondo Decides 2020: Returning Officer For Governorship Election Not From Ondo - INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that the Returning Officer for the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State is not from Ondo.

Making this clarification in response to the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) claims that the Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) was appointed as the Returning Officer for the election, INEC warned that it was the sole responsibility of the commission to appoint the Returning Officer and in that light, it will not be sharing its constitutional and statutory function with any individual or political party. 8. How Bola Tinubu Used His Governorship Position To Tax Lagos State, Evade Tax

Alpha Beta, a consulting firm, has been dragged into fraudulent activities involving former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu. The company, alongside Tinubu were said to have also engaged in tax evasion for several years.

Alpha Beta is being used for “massive corruption purposes including tax evasion, bribery of government officials, diversion of funds” and money laundering, This is according to one of the founder, Dapo Apara who sued the company, Tinubu, and a former commissioner in the state, Akin Doherty, to court after a fallout with Tinubu. Nigerian female Disc Jockey and singer, Cuppy has joined the list of celebrities who have reacted to the brutality meted out on Nigerians by the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

10. President Buhari Budgets NGN420 billion For N-Power, Other SIPs

President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that his administration has budgeted for N-Power and other social investment programmes in the 2021 budget. The President said this while addressing his administration's plan for Nigerians.

According to President Buhari, the sum of N420 billion has been earmarked for social intervention programmes which consist of N-Power, Homegrown School-feeding programme and other programmes for vulnerable and lower-class households. Read more here.
