Nigeria's starting eleven for AFCON opener against Equatoria

Nigeria's boss Jose Peseiro has announced his starting line up ahead of the opening clash between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The Portuguese manager has handed debut appearance to goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili and midfielder Alhassan Yusuf.

Former Chelsea player Ola Aina gets the nod to start at right back ahead of Fenerbahce defender Bright Osayi-Emmanuel

William Troost-Ekong is back to where he truly belongs in the centre back position and he would be playing alongside Semi Ajayi in the heart of Nigeria's defence. This would mean Kenneth Omeruo would be on the substitute bench for this match.

Former Everton star Alex Iwobi was handed a starting berth in the team in the attacking midfield ahead of talented players Joe Aribo, Kelechi Iheanacho and Samuel Chukwueze.

And it would be interesting to see how he(Iwobi ) performs in that position with the Super Eagles urgently needing creativity in that area.

On the other hand, Ademola Lookman would be making his AFCON debuts along with Alhassan Yusuf and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili.

And it would be great to see how Lookman line-up with Moses Simon and African player of the year

Winner Victor Osimhen in a front three attack for Nigeria.
