Nigerien security man killed by armed robbers in Jigawa

Abu Haru, a 52-year-old Nigerien security guard, was slain by suspected armed robbers on a watermelon field in Jigawa State's Guri Local Government Area.

A local informed the Daily Post that the suspects shot the security guard in the stomach, took valuables, and used a bow and arrow.

The event was confirmed by DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, a police spokesperson.

According to him, “On 09/06/2024 at about 0500hrs, a distress call was received that an unknown hoodlum shot a watchman of a watermelon farm situated at Araha Forest, Guri LGA.”

He identified the victim as Abu Haru, a 52-year-old from Dingas, Niger Republic.

He said that following receiving the complaint, the patrol team from Guri Division hurried to the spot and transported the victim to Guri General Hospital.

DSP Shiisu also stated that detectives from Guri Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Buba Malam Audu, 22, of Diliyari Fulani settlement, Karikasamma LGA; Usman Hardo Yale, 20, of Kadir Fulani settlement, Guri LGA; and Baba Yakuba, 25, of Diliyari Fulani settlement, in connection with the investigation.

He stated that three lambs and one keypad cell phone belonging to the victim were also seized from the accused as evidence.

The matter was sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation.

Meanwhile, in connection with vehicle theft, the Jigawa State Police Command has taken into custody 43-year-old Mahmud Adam and found a stolen SUV in the state's Gwaram Local Government Area.

The suspect was apprehended on Saturday, June 15, according to a statement made by the command's spokesperson, DSP Shiisu Adam, on Sunday, June 16.

Shiisu claims that the arrest happened in response to an allegation of a stolen Honda CRV registered DKD 10 AG, which belonged to Abba Yahya in Gano town, Dawakin Kudu LGA, Kano State.

According to him, the car was headed to Maiduguri in Borno State.

He said that the SUV was stopped on the Sara-Darazo route by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gwaram and his crew.

According to Shiisu, the suspect has subsequently been turned over to the Kano State Police Command for additional investigation, along with the recovered car.
