NIN-SIM Linking: Outgoing Calls To Be Barred From April 4

The federal government has approved the implementation of the NIN-SIM linkage policy put in place to ensure the compliance of citizens of the country.

Following the approval, all Telcos have been directed to enforce the policy on all SIMs issued (new and existing) in Nigeria, with outgoing calls being barred for telephone lines that have not complied with the linkage policy.

Daily Post reports that a statement made available by Nigeria Communications Commission and signed by Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde disclosed that as of Monday, April 4, more than 125 million SIMs have had their NINs submitted for immediate linkage, verification, and authentication.

Additionally, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued over 78 million unique NINs to citizens.

The directive for the implementation and commencement of NIN-SIM linkage had been given by President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2020 but the federal government had extended the deadlines following appeals by several bodies.
