Nintendo has announced its plan to acquire SRD, one of its longest-serving game development partners.
The acquisition is expected to close on April 1, 2022, pending satisfaction of all relevant terms and customary closing conditions, Nintendo stated.
SRD has worked with Nintendo since the NES era, and more recently helped in developing video game software like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
According to Nintendo, “the acquisition will serve to strengthen the management base of SRD and secure the availability of software development resource from Nintendo, in addition to facilitating an anticipated improvement in software development efficiency."
The purchase is expected to close on April 1.
Nintendo didn't say how much it paid for SRD, but the development house will become a wholly-owned subsidiary.
The company bought Luigi's Mansion creator Next Level Games in January 2021.
