Renowned filmmaker Niyi Akinmolayan has taken to Twitter to address the recent criticisms surrounding the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) which took place on May 20.
Netizens had expressed their dissatisfaction with the awards, claiming that some winners were undeserving.
In his tweet, Akinmolayan urged everyone to approach the awards with a more relaxed perspective, emphasizing the importance of enjoying the ceremony itself.
He suggested that the focus should be on celebrating the winners, acknowledging the industry’s growth, and appreciating the efforts of all those involved.
Akinmolayan also encouraged netizens to celebrate the organisers, DSTV, for their commitment to hosting the awards, adding that not all films recognised at the AMVCA were available on the DSTV platform.
“Every year this voting vex happens… let’s just enjoy the award shows. It’s not that serious.
"Celebrate the winners. Celebrate the growth of an industry.
“Celebrate everyone putting in the work. Celebrate DSTV for doing it at all.
"A lot of the films aren’t even on their platform,” Akinmolayan tweeted.
