The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed its disappointment over the recent approval granted to the Kano State Government by the state House of Assembly to secure a loan of N10 billion to provide CCTV Camera for the purpose of improving security in the state.

In a statement signed by the NLC Chairman Kano, Comrade Dr Kabiru Ado Minjibir, on Friday, the Congress said though it is the not in any way against improving the security of lives and properties of its citizens which is one of the sole responsibilities of the Government, however, in the face of over N27 billion outstanding retirees benefits, such move is uncalled for.

"The Congress acknowledges the giant strides by the Government in the providing security to the citizens.

"We wish to argue that providing CCTV in the name of improving security is curative, while payment of gratuity and other retirees benefits is preventive, taking into consideration the multiplier effects," part of the statement reads.

The congress acknowledged the liability inherited by the incumbent government from the previous administration since the commencement of the contributory pension in 2007 largely due to non-remittance of 17% monthly contributions by some agencies of the government.

"It's time for the incumbent administration to do the right thing in order to make a difference in the spirit of Change mantra," it said.

It added that if the pensioners would be paid what is due to them, workers of Kano State will never forget any administration that settle this menace once and for all.

The NLC then asked the Ganduje-led administration to seek another approval from the House of Assembly to secure another loan to settle the outstanding gratuity and other retirees benefits.
