NLC mourns, describes late former Reps Speaker, Na’abba as

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has mourned the passing of Ghali Na'abba, the former speaker of the House of Representatives saying, he was a fine, gentleman.

Na'abba, who had been suffering from an unidentified disease, passed away in Abuja on Wednesday.

On the same day, his remains were interred in Kano State as it was conveyed directly from Abuja to the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.

In response, NLC President Joe Ajaero released a statement in which he paid tribute to the deceased, calling him a good gentleman who had given his life in defence of the nation's democracy.

The late politician, according to Ajaero, would be remembered for obstructing certain politicians' plans for a third term.

The statement reads in part, “In particular, Na’aba will be remembered for his heroic role in thwarting the third-term agenda of the then formidable anti-democratic forces.

“He paid dearly for his role and was not allowed to return to the parliament ever since but he lost nothing of his national status or relevance.

“But beyond thwarting the third term agenda, Ghali Na’abba is on record to have repeatedly held the executive accountable for their actions almost culminating in the impeachment of the President.

“We at the Congress mourn this fine gentleman, principled politician and one of the greatest heroes of our democracy”.
