Following the announcement of the suspension of the planned strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, praised the union leaders for their "understanding".
The unions had planned to embark on a strike action over the increase in fuel price and electricity tariff.
In a tweet, Kyari said that he understood the "difficulties of labour leadership when faced with choices between stark realities and legitimate follower expectations," being a former union leader himself.
He added, “The leadership chose the pursuit of common good and posterity will vindicate us all for standing with our country.
