(1) Kanu believes in Judaism and considers himself a Jew and oftentimes has led his Biafran people to various Jewish prayers and religious observations. According to him, his ethnic group are descendants of the lost tribe of Israel who settled in West Africa.

However, it is unclear how and when he converted to Judaism and if it has been accepted by mainstream Jewish authorities.

(2) Kanu is married to Uchechi Kanu. On Tuesday, January 5th, 2016, while still in detention, their union was blessed with a baby boy who was delivered in an undisclosed hospital.

(3) Kanu, the man behind Nigeria's separatists spent more than one year-and-a-half in jail without trial on treason charges.

(4) Kanu grew up in Nigeria's south-east and went to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He moved to the United Kingdom (UK) before graduating due to incessant strikes.

(5) Kanu holds both Nigerian and British nationality.

(7) Around the time of his traditional wedding, Kanu was 'beaten up seriously and he sustained injuries', according to his late father, HRM Eze Israel Okwu Kanu in an interview with Punch in 2016.

(8) Before his seizure by the Department of State Services (DSS) in 2015, Kanu had been arrested in the past.

He was arrested in 2008 or thereabout. According to his later father, "his arrest was engineered. Nnamdi was enlightening the others involved in the pro-Biafra struggle and Uwazuruike (Ralph, of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB) was not happy about that. After that, he (Nnamdi) returned to London to continue the struggle from there".
