Nnamdi Kanu's Trial: Ebonyi Government Warns Against Sit-At-Home Order

Nnamdi Kanu's Trial: Ebonyi Government Warns Against Sit-At-

Ebonyi Government

Ahead of Nnamdi Kanu's trial, the Ebonyi State Government has warned residents of the state against obeying the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

IPOB in a statement through its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, had announced the sit-at-home order for, January 18,19, and 20, 2022, in protest of Kanu’s continued trial.

Emma Power's statement reads thus, “Following our leader’s upcoming court appearances on January 18, 19 and 20, 2022, we wish to remind Biafrans that there will be sit-at-home on January 18 and not January 19 and 20.

"In keeping with our solidarity with Kanu, the entire Biafra land will be on lockdown only on January 18 for obvious reasons.

“Biafrans should understand that January 19 is the judgment day in our leader’s suit against the Federal Government, which is pending before an Umuahia High Court. So, there will be no sit-at-home that day.

“Again, we don’t want to compound the pains of our people, hence, we will limit the sit-at-home to only January 18. Biafrans and residents of the southeast should go about their businesses without molestation on January 19 and 20, 2022.

"Anybody found violating the sit-at-home on 17th, 19th and 20th is criminal and should be treated as such because IPOB leadership has given an order, which was duly signed,”

Nnamdi Kanu’s trial before Justice Binta Nyako-led Federal High Court Abuja continues on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

However, Nwachukwu Eze, the state’s Commissioner has directed all markets and parks in the state should be open for business or their leaders should be prepared to face “severe punishment”.

According to Nwachukwu, “All markets and parks leaderships in Ebonyi are by this announcement directed to ensure that markets are open for businesses on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

“The state is not in any way part of the sit-at-home order by IPOB. Please note that strict compliance to this directive is very important as failure to do so will attract severe punishment.”
