The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited is searching for crude oil in additional areas throughout the north after finding the resource in the states of Bauchi and Gombe.
As part of efforts to support the nation's oil output and reserves, NNPC declared that it was currently implementing coordinated actions for greater frontier exploration in the area.
The corporation made this claim in a paper on the NNPC's frontier exploration services activities from 2020 to 2022.
The document listed some potential states, including Niger, Nasarawa, Sokoto, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe, where the NNPC anticipated finding oil.
The Anambra basin was identified as another region where the NNPC was looking to locate extra oil, in addition to the North.
The initial step in finding an oil or gas field is prospecting, during which seismic surveys are conducted.
