'No. 10 Should Be Retired As Tribute To Maradona' - Villa-Bo

Argentine legend, Diego Maradona was declared dead on Wednesday with the cause of death to be Cardiac arrest caused by blood clots in the brain.

AllNews understands that the whole world and particularly Argentina has felt the loss of a leader or as some regarded him, "a god" leading to Andre Villa-Boas's urge to FIFA to retire the No. 10 shirt as a tribute to the Argentine.

The No. 10 is adorned mostly by club top players as another Argentine, Lionel Messi wears it both for Argentina and Barcelona which could make such a request be denied as it could turn the tribute into disappointment for clubs and countries who respected the Argentine legend but would not want to lose their own legend in the process.

Maradona who was regarded as one of the greatest players of all time was synonymous with the No. 10 jersey - which he wore as he guided Argentina to World Cup 1986.

He later kept the shirt with Barcelona, Napoli, and Boca Junior.

"It was a very bad news, as well as the loss of a board member at Porto, who was really important to me, who was the first person to open the door for me to the coaching world", he said after his side's 2-0 loss to Porto in the UEFA Champions League.

"And yes, Maradona is tough news, I would like FIFA to retire the No. 10 shirts in all competitions, for all teams."

Apart from Lionel Messi, other world-class players who would have to look for new jersey number includes; Neymar, Modric, Papu Gomez (Atalanta), Sadio Mane (Liverpool), Angel Correa (Atletico Madrid), Iker Munian (Athletic Bilbao), Christian Pulisic (Chelsea), Marcus Rashford (Man United).
