The fire outbreak at the Ikoyi Correctional center a few hours ago has been controlled with no jailbreak in the facility.
The spokesperson for Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Lagos, Rotimi Oladokun, noted that there is no cause for alarm as the fire incident affected some part of the center.
Oladokun added that a statement will soon be released by the service.
He said: “There was fire on a part of the correctional center but it has been contained. It did not affect the inmates in any way. There is no jailbreak and all is fine. We will issue a statement soon.”
There had been reports that hoodlums attacked the center and released inmates from the facility.
However, AllNews learnt that as soon as the fire started, armed detachments of police operatives from Area A Command and Police Mobile Force (PMF) 2, Keffi Street were deployed to safeguard the place.
