Some Nigerian celebrities have kicked against the approval for the reopening of Lekki Toll Gate.

AllNews Nigeria earlier reported that the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Judicial Inquiry probing the alleged killing of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, had approved the reopening of the toll plaza, and returned control of the Lekki toll gate plaza to its owners, the Lekki Concession Company (LCC).

However, some top personalities and youth representatives kicked against the decision, describing it as an act to obstruct justice.

The call for the shutdown of the toll gate till investigation is concluded by the judicial panel.

AllNews Nigeria captured some reactions, see below;

Peter Okoye, reacting, kicked against the ruling, declaring that the toll gate will not be opened until justice is served.

His tweet read: “If una like make una go hand over Lekki tollgate to Jesus( If you like handover toll gate to Jesus) No justice, NO LCC.

“End SARS, No more toll gate.

“Make them no think am! We will never forget what happen at that Tollgate on the 20th of October 2020.”

Rinu Oduala and Temitope Majekodunmi, the two youth representatives on the nine-man panel, said their views were not reflected in the panel ruling; “The Youth Reps at the Lagos judicial panel of inquiry and restitution for victims of SARS related abuses & Lekki Toll Gate Incident will like to formally express our dissent to the Order allowing for the repossession of Lekki Toll Gate,” the statement reads.

“We’d like to remind the public this panel was set up on our 5 For 5 demands during the nationwide protests against police brutality. So any decision without considering the opinions of the Youth Reps reflected in the rulings will be in violation of Rules setting up this Panel.

 “We have made efforts to communicate our position on the application by LCC to take repossession of the Lekki Toll Gate to the Chairlady as required by the Rules of the Panel but our dissent wasn’t reflected in the ruling.”

The youth representatives said their position is in line with the panel’s obligation of ensuring impartiality “throughout hearings for victims and contribute to the fair, effective, efficient conduct of its hearings and more importantly, for voices of victims not be silenced in the course of this assignment”.

Omoyele Sowore, Nigerian human rights activist and convener o\f Revolution Now also declined the reopening of the Lekki Toll Gate, called for the perpetrators of the Lekki Massacre.

"No to the reopening #Lekkitollgate, the perpetrators of #LekkiMassacre must be brought to book.
@jidesanwoolu #Buratai must be brought before @IntlCrimCourt #RevolutionNow #Buharimustgo"

DJ Switch also emphasized that operations at the tollgate should not have resumed when justice has not prevailed. “We cannot allow operations to begin at the Lekki Tollgate when justice has not prevailed! This is wrong!. I have always known from the start that this panel’s screening in my absence is a sham!

“It’s very sad but the Lagos State Government has failed the young people of Its state,” she said
