Nollywood icon Mr Ibu undergoes leg amputation after seven surgeries

Nigerian comedian and Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has undergone a leg amputation.

The details of this development were revealed on Mr Ibu’s official Instagram handle on Monday.

A statement posted on his Instagram page disclosed the challenging situation the actor had faced.

The statement reads, “As of 1 pm today, Daddy has gone through 7 successful surgeries but to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery, one of his legs had to be amputated.

"This development has been hard on us all, but we’ve had to accept it as Daddy’s new reality to keep him alive.”

The family of Mr Ibu has reached out to well-meaning Nigerians, soliciting support for the actor during this difficult period.

They emphasised the delicate state of Mr Ibu’s health and the need for assistance.

The statement added, “Please, we are still soliciting support from well-meaning Nigerians, as Daddy is in a very delicate state, and he needs all the help he can get.

“Thank you, everyone; the Okafor family is grateful, and we don’t take you for granted. In due time, Daddy will personally acknowledge everyone who supported him during this period as soon as he’s stable.”

Last month, Mr Ibu had posted a video on his verified Instagram account, where he sought help and prayers from his fans.

He had been hospitalised for several weeks, and the doctors informed him that amputating his leg might be the best solution if their next line of action didn’t work out.

Amid his health battle, the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation stepped forward and announced that it had fully covered the medical expenses of Mr Ibu.

The foundation acknowledged the actor’s significant contributions to the entertainment industry and urged others to come forward and assist Mr Ibu during his recovery journey.

Mr Ibu is celebrated for his comedic talents and has brought joy and laughter to countless households through his roles in the Nollywood film industry over the past four decades.

His health struggles have touched the hearts of many, prompting both fans and well-wishers to offer their support during this challenging time.
