North Korea Fires Two Ballistic Missiles Towards Waters

North Korea has fired two ballistic missiles, according to South Korea’s military.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Friday the missiles were launched from the Sunan area of North Korea’s capital, Pyongyang, towards the sea off its east coast.

It said in a statement that; “Our military maintains a full readiness posture while closely cooperating with the US while strengthening surveillance and vigilance.”

The US and South Korea have warned for months that North Korea is preparing to conduct its seventh nuclear test.

Friday’s launch also came hours after the White House said North Korea had delivered arms to the Russian private military group Wagner, whose mercenaries have been fighting in Ukraine.

Despite heavy international sanctions over its weapons programmes, North Korea in recent months has test-fired a barrage of ballistic missiles.

North Korea also fired two ballistic missiles toward the sea off its east coast last Sunday. South Korea condemned the missile test amid the tensions between both countries.

Japan's Vice Defence Minister Toshiro Ino also said the missiles seemed to have landed outside Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and there had been no report of damages.

North Korea has conducted an unprecedented number of missile tests this year, including an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
