Nottingham Forest coach Steve Cooper has raved about Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi's tenacity and general play against West Ham following his match-winning performance.

Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin in a deal worth £17.5m earlier in the summer after impressing in the Bundesliga.

He made his Premier League debut in the 2-0 to Newcastle United on the opening day of the season.

The 25-year-old scored the winning goal against West Ham last weekend, and his performance in that game has drawn praise from the club's coach Steve Cooper.

“His tenacity and in his general play, he was a real big threat for us and a big reason we could play high up the pitch. I’m really happy with him. He’s settled in well off the pitch,”

Awoniyi's goal was Nottingham Forest's first Premier in 23 years which also earned them their first win of the season.

He will be hoping to be on the score sheet again when Nottingham Forest welcomes Tottenham to the City Ground on Sunday.

Awoniyi made his Super Eagles debut in the 1-0 loss to the Central African Republic in a World Cup qualifier in 2021.

He was part of the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where he was on target against Sudan in a 3-1 win for Nigeria.
