Akanni scored twice to lead the Olukoya Boys to a 3-1 win over Plateau United at the Agege Township Stadium on Wednesday.
He scored the first on the stroke of half time and added the second four minutes after an hour mark. Tunde Azeez getting the other goal for the Lagos-based side, while Ibrahim Buhari found the net for the visitors.
In a chat with AllNews after the game, Akanni expressed his delight at bagging a double.
"I feel very happy, and I want to thank God for the goals He gave me, because it is not easy.
"I try to improve everyday and help the team as much as possible. Thanks to God and my team mate," Elijah told AllNews.
MFM FC are currently placed 11th on the log after 34 games. They next confront Enyimba FC of Aba in Aba on Sunday.
