NPFL: Akwa United Thump 10-Man Remo Stars

Akwa United condemned Remo Stars to a 3-1 defeat in matchday six of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The Promise Keepers outclassed the Sky Blue Stars at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo on Sunday.

Cyril Olisema put the hosts ahead in the 5th minute from the spot before Elijah Akani equalised in the 24th minute.

Akwa United's lead was later restored in the 45th minute as Uche Collins found the back of the net at the brink of half-time.

The visitors came out spirited in the second half but their morale dropped when the referee gave Andy Okpe the marching order for the second bookable offence in the 57th minute.

With 10 men playing against 11, Ogunmodede's men had the game put beyond their reach as Olalere Segun scored a well-taken goal in the 60th minute.

The defeat for the Sky Blue Stars makes it their second defeat of the season having previously lost 3-0 to table toppers Bendel Insurance.

Despite the defeat, Remo Stars remain in second position in Group A with 12 points, four points behind Bendel Insurance and two points ahead of Akwa United who are fourth on the table with 10 points.
