Rivers United boss Stanley Eguma has commended his players for a job well done against Sunshine Stars to qualify for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Super Six playoff.
The title holders edged past Sunshine Stars 1-0 in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Morice Chukwu scored the decisive goal in the second half.
“The players did very well but Sunshine Stars were just lucky, it would have been dozens of goals, I commended the players,” Eguma said.
He however acknowledged that the encounter was tough as Sunshine Stars came prepared to secure a spot in the Super Six play-off.
“It was a tough game and we expected it because Sunshine Stars were also eyeing the Super Six play-off and they played hard but the game was under our control,” Eguma added.
Rivers United will host Doma United in another rescheduled game on Thursday before they conclude their campaign against Rangers on Sunday.
