NPFL: Gombe United Approves 10-Day Election Break For Player

A 10-day election break has been approved for Gombe United, the club management confirms.

It was earlier announced that the Nigerian top flight league will embark on a mid-season break and will resume action on March 25 so that players in the league can participate in Nigeria's General Elections.

But the management of the Savannah Scorpions directed its players to resume preparation for the second half of the season on March 2.

The Technical Adviser of the Club, Aliyu Zubairu explained that the reason his players are charged to return weeks before March 25 is to enable them to prepare well for the second phase of the 2022/23 season.

Prior to the mid-season break, Gombe United rounded up their first stanza of the season with a dramatic 3-2 win over Plateau United at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe on Monday.

Anayo Ogbonna and Rahman Olarenwaju's first-half goals and Muhamadou Souley's penalty goal in injury time handed the Savannah Scorpions their second home win of the season.

With the result, they head into the break sitting in sixth position in Group A with 10 points from nine games having won two, drawn four and lost three games.

Gombe United will be guests to Plateau United when both sides resume hostilities after the general elections.
