Football fans are mourning the death of Nasarawa United defender, Chieme Martins, who slumped and died in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match in Lafia on Sunday.
Allnews reports that Martins' death occurred in the week 23 encounter between the Solid Miners and visiting Katsina United.
Nasarawa United won the match three-nil, however, their impressive victory was overshadowed by the sad incident.
After going down on the pitch, and all efforts to revive Martins proved abortive, he was transferred to the Dalhatu- Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia where he was pronounced dead.
Some Nigerians condemn the league's medical response while others outrightly lambast the League Management Company (LMC) for their logistics.
See some comments from Nigerians below:
This is the ambulance that emerge from the Latfia stadium which wasn't working for safety measures. It was pushed to save a lifeless Chineme Martins who slumped and died in the process of recovery. First Aid wasn't even done properly. They keep joking with lives. @LMCNPFL pic.twitter.com/QEHbrHalJ6

Sad to read about the avoidable passing of Nassarawa United defender Chineme Martins in an NPFL game on Sunday.
And how can this be your emergency ambulance at a professional match if it requires stewards to push to start? We can do better, and we mustn't lose another life. pic.twitter.com/sw52XgHwFc— Shola Opaleye (@SholaOpaleye) March 9, 2020
The death of Nasarawa Utd FC defender Chineme Martins who slumped during NPFL’s Match is sad but regrettably avoidable. While registering my condolences with team/ family, Ministry will immediately work with NPFL to role out mandatory conditions before any match is played
