NPFL: Poor Officiating Can't Improve League's Standard - Teb

Bayelsa United gaffer Dipreye Tebowei has said that the standard of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will never improve if match officials are poor in officiating games.

Tebowei's remark is coming on the heels of his side's 3-0 loss to Lobi Stars in Jos on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lobi Stars were dominant against the Yenagoa-based visitors in matchday four of the NPFL.

Both clubs were unable to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes until a breakthrough came for the hosts in the 67th minute when Kumaga Suur scored to give them the lead before making it a brace for himself in the 77th minute.

Abba Umar then put the match beyond Bayelsa United’s reach when he scored from 25 yards to make it 3-0 in the 84th minute.

Speaking after his side's defeat, Tebowei lambasted the match officials for failing at their job.

“How can you say you want to improve the standard of the league and the referees are still officiating this way?” he rhetorically asked.

“If we continue like this, our standard will never improve.”

The defeat leaves Bayelsa United rooted in the 8th position in Group B having managed one win, two losses and one draw from four games.
