NPFL: Rangers Should Keep Faith In Maikaba's Team - Agoye

Sunshine Stars manager Edith Agoye has called on the management of Rangers to keep faith in the team of head coach Abdu Maikaba despite the club's dismal start to the season.

AllNews Nigeria had earlier reported that Maikaba issued a request to the management of the club to terminate his contract as fans of the club who are irked want him out of the club.

The Flying Antelopes were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunshine Stars in their NPFL matchday three clash at the Awka City Stadium on Sunday.

Rangers took the lead in the 14th minute of regular time courtesy of an own goal from Ikemdinachi Imo before Ibrahim Yusuf drew the visiting Owena Whales level from Ejike Uzoechi's assist in the 36th minute.

The hosts later had a golden opportunity to seal victory from the spot in the 90th minute but Mustapha Lawal denied Christian Nnaji from scoring the winning goal at the death.

Commending Maikaba's team, Agoye told the club's media, “It was a very good game, despite the fact that they (Rangers) had their back to the wall they played a very good game.

“They are coached by one of the best coaches in Nigeria and I want the Enugu Government to keep faith with the team, believe me, with time they will get it right.”

The Flying Antelopes are rooted to the bottom of the Group B table having picked up one point since the opening day.

Rangers will be hoping to turn their fortunes around when they travel away from home to play Niger Tornadoes on Sunday, while Sunshine Stars will host Abia Warriors in their next league game at the Akure Sports Complex on Sunday.
