NSCDC arrests oil thieves with 16,000 litres of diesel in De

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Delta Command, have apprehended three oil thieves in possession of approximately 16,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil, commonly known as diesel.

The suspects, along with the refined products transported in a large wooden boat commonly referred to as the 'Cotonou boat,' were presented before journalists in Warri on Tuesday by the NSCDC Commandant in Delta, Jimoh Suleiman.

Speaking to newsmen, the NSCDC Delta Commandant disclosed that the suspects were nabbed on Sunday within the vicinity of the Madagho community in Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state, following extensive surveillance efforts.

"We have been trailing the suspects for the past three days before successfully apprehending them," he stated.

Expressing concern, the NSCDC boss noted the possibility of the suspects tampering with pipelines.

"It is evident that the product was vandalized somewhere. We are not relenting and we will not sleep. Others who plan to sabotage the economy should steer clear of Delta because we are vigilant,” he said.

He added that they were apprehended alongside nine GP tanks, with four of the tanks loaded with products, two pumping machines, a generator, and a counting machine.
