NSCDC Kano Recorded 1,290 Criminal Cases In 2021

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kano Command said it received over 4,135 civil and criminal cases across the state in 2021.

A statement issued on Friday by the Public Relations Officer, Kano Command, DSC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, said of all the cases, 2,845 civil matters were handled by the Peace and Conflict Management Unit of the Command.

The statement added that the cases involve marital/family disputes, breach of trust and contract, debt and business disagreement, la and dispute as well as character defamation which according to him were resolved through alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

The statement added that 189 Farmers/Herders disputes were also received and parties reconciled in different communities across the state, adding that the corps recovered over 8.3 million Naira belonging to different individuals, and have since been returned to the owners via the peace and conflict resolution Unit.

The statement added that 1,290 criminal cases were received in the outgoing year which includes vandalism, rape, kidnapping, robbery, criminal breach of trust, fraud, job scam, human trafficking amongst others.

“Against this backdrop, the NSCDC Kano command has successfully prosecuted over 179 cases before various courts of law.”

“Furthermore, the Corps has also received a total of 672 cases of emergency incidences ranging from fire disaster, road/ auto accidents and waterways emergencies in which personnel of the service actively participated in a rescue operation to save lives and property.”

“The Corps, as part of its core mandates had during the year ensured total protection and safeguarding of national assets and infrastructure across Kano,” added the statement.

The statement further revealed that the corps plans to ensure adequate security at the Nigerian Correctional Service custodial centres in collaboration with sister agencies in 2022.

The corps also promised safety and security in various educational institutions through Civil Defence Safe School Initiative and also the protection of all critical national assets and infrastructure.
