NUC Approves First University Of Education In North

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of the first university of education in the North.

The approval of the Shehu Shagari University of Education in Sokoto makes it the first in North and the 58th state university in Nigeria while maintaining the 206th university in Nigeria.

This was disclosed by the executive secretary of the NUC, Professor Adamu Rasheed in Abuja.

He disclosed while handing over the certificate of recognition to the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Monday.

Tambuwal explained that the university would focus on developing entrepreneurial skills while maintaining a functional and effective education.

He added that the university would improve human capital development in the state through entrepreneurship.

He further stated that while the university had complied with all necessary documentation, the Sokoto State House of Assembly had already passed recommendations for the upgrade of the institution.
