NUC Okays New New Programs For Kano Varsity

The National University Commission (NUC) has given the green light to Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano, to start new undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

A statement issued by the university Head, Information, Publications, Protocol and Public Relations Unit Abdullahi Abba Hassan said this was contained in the approval letter dated March 15, 2022, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of the university and signed by the Director of Academic Planning of the NUC, Dr. N. B. Saliu for Executive Secretary.

According to the approval letter, the Executive Secretary considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the programs.

The programs approved by the NUC are MSc. Accounting, Masters in Accounting and Finance (MAF), Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting and Finance (PGD), B.Sc. Taxation, B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Software Engineering and B.Sc. Industrial Mathematics.

Part of the statement reads: ‘’The programs are to be run in the Main Campus of the University with effect from the 2021/2022 academic session.

 ‘’The approval does not cover the part-time mode of delivery of the undergraduate programs.’

‘’All programs shall bear only the approved titles and nomenclatures and any change will require the approval of the Commission.’

‘’It enjoined the University to provide adequate human and material resources for the development and growth of the approved programs.

‘’Similarly, the NUC considered and approved splitting of Department of Arts and Social Science Education into:

  1. Educational Foundation: Early Child Education (B.A. Ed)
  2. Educational Foundation: Guidance and Counselling (B.A. Ed.)
  1. Curriculum and Instruction: Educational Technology (B. Ed.).

The Commission also approved the splitting of Department of Science and Technical Education into:

  1. Building Technology (B.Ed. (Tech.)
  2. Electrical/Electronic Technology (B.Ed. (Tech.).

A resource verification visit was carried out by panels of experts to some proposed academic programs of the University with a view to assessing the human and material resources available for their establishment.
