Nunez Double Helps 10-Man Liverpool Stun Newcastle

Darwin Nunez struck two late goals to complete a remarkable turnaround as 10-man Liverpool won 2-1 at Newcastle on Sunday.

Liverpool had a nightmare start at St James' Park and found themselves behind on 25 minutes when Anthony Gordon took advantage of Trent Alexander-Arnold inability to control a simple pass to put the Magpies ahead.

Soon afterwards, captain Virgil van Dijk got sent off for a foul on Alexander Isak, making it the second time in eight days Liverpool had to compete with 10 players.

Newcastle then came within inches of doubling their lead through Miguel Almiron but Alisson miraculously turned his shot on to the woodwork in the first half to keep Liverpool in it.

Almiron later had two chances in the second-half to put the game to bed but he fired a volley high over the bar and struck the post with a curling effort.

The missed chances proved costly as Liverpool drew level through Nunez, who ran through to rifle a shot past Newcastle keeper Nick Pope with nine minutes left.

Nunez then sealed the comeback win three minutes into stoppage time when he took Mohamed Salah's pass in his stride before applying an equally emphatic finish.

The result means the Magpies are winless against Liverpool in the Premier League in nearly eight years, with Jurgen Klopp sealing a record-breaking 11th consecutive league victory over Eddie Howe.
