NYSC: Corps Members Offer Free Medical Services To Lagos Isl

Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Tuesday offered free medical services to no fewer than 237 people on Lagos Island.

This was in line with the 4th quarter of the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) organised by corps members on the Island area of Lagos.

Yetunde Baderinwa, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Lagos, during the flag off of the activity said it was a way for the scheme to fulfil its social responsibility to the community.

The State Coordinator who was represented by Victoria Akowonlehin, Assistant Director, Community Development Service, said the HIRD programme was organised to offer free healthcare services to people in rural areas.

“We are glad that you have embraced this initiative by making yourselves available.

“This exercise is offering services such as free malaria treatment, eye tests, dental checks, RBS, HBP tests, free drugs, physiotherapy sessions and other medical lab tests.

“We urge you to take advantage of the free health services while advising and encouraging you to adhere strictly to the prescription given to you by the corps’ medical personnel.

“The Corps’ medical personnel are ready to treat, advise and also refer cases where need be, so those who are not chanced today have the opportunity to enjoy the free services tomorrow,” she said.

The chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Hon. Adetoyese Olusi, represented by the Vice Chairman Hon. Muhammed Rosul commended the NYSC for the endeavour.

Olusi pledged continued support and acceptance of the scheme and its members by the Lagos Island Local Government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two-day HIRD, which is the last for the year, was sponsored by Grace Impact, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).

It began with a sensitisation of the host communities by the corps members.
