NYSC: Sharia Law Not Binding On Non-Muslims — Sultan To Corp Members

NYSC: Sharia Law Not Binding On Non-Muslims — Sultan To Co

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar, has guaranteed the 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members mobilised to Sokoto State that the Sharia Law is binding on only Muslims in the state.

Abubakar affirmed this in his palace on Thursday, when he received the NYSC management and some corps members in the state led by that state coordinator.

The Sultan further promised their protection in the state despite the insecurity ravaging the country.

Abubakar further assured them that they will be allowed to practise the religion of their choice.

The Monarch added that the corps members would not be forced to obey Islamic laws or engage in doctrines as the Sharia law does not apply to non-Muslims.

“In Sokoto, Sharia law is only binding on Muslims, nobody will force you to wear Hijab or force you to obey Islamic laws if you are not a Muslim,” he stated.

He, however, advised them to be obedient to the law while serving as role models to the young ones in the places of assignment.

"If you are posted to schools, impact the lives of the students, make them better than you met them.

“If you have a problem at the place of your primary assignment or where you are posted to, contact the district head over there; they are your guardians in the community,’’ he added.

He also encouraged the corps members to regard the customs and culture of the land.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Alhaji Muhammad Nakamba, on his part, commended the said the batch of corps members for their outstanding show of discipline and obedience to rules and regulations guiding the camp.
