OAU Management Raises Alarm Over Fake Admission Syndicates

The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife has announced that it was unaware of the activities of a scamming syndicate and impostors on social media who have been defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.

This is as it maintained that its business activities are never conducted on social media platforms.

In a statement signed by the University Management and obtained on Tuesday, the institution dissociated itself completely from miscreants added that their actions were intended to bring the image of the university to disrepute.

The statement reads, “The attention of the Management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has been drawn to the nefarious activities of a scamming syndicate and impostors on Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media platforms, who set out to defraud the unsuspecting members of the public by promising admission placements, job opportunities, award of contracts and other benefits to teeming seekers at a fee, using the name of the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

“In view of this ugly development, members of the public should note that businesses of a reputable University like ours are never conducted on social media platforms.

“In fact, the Management sees it as criminal, uncanny and improper for anybody or a group of persons to align with or transact business of the University with faceless and unidentified individuals who are not officers or designated staff of the University.

“The University, therefore, dissociates itself completely from these miscreants who by their actions wish to bring its image to disrepute.

“We, therefore, want to assure the general public that efforts are on to identify and bring the criminal(s) to justice.”

The OAU management stressed that the official communication channels of the University still remain.
