Odegaard Penalty Helps Arsenal Survive Scare At Crystal Palace

Odegaard Penalty Helps Arsenal Survive Scare At Crystal Pala

A penalty from captain Martin Odegaard gave 10-man Arsenal a gutsy 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Odegaard converted from the spot in the 54th minute after Eddie Nketiah was brought down by Sam Johnstone following a quick taken free-kick by Gabriel Martinelli.

The goal put the Gunners in cruise control until the 67th minute when left-back Takehiro Tomiyasu was shown a red card for two bookings.

Tomiyasu's first yellow was for taking too long over a throw-in and the second was harshly awarded for a minor foul on Jordan Ayew in midfield.

The red card afforded Palace the opportunity to exert pressure on Arsenal, yet the Eagles were unable to draw level as Mikel Arteta's men held onto their slender lead.

The win moves Arsenal to third-place with six points from two games, joining Brighton and Manchester City.
