Offa Poly Gets New Acting Rector

The appointment of Eghe Igbinehi as the second Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State has been approved by the Governing Council of the institution.

The approval of Igbinehi was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Information, Public Relations & Protocols of the polytechnic, Olayinka Iroye, and made available to pressmen on Sunday.

According to the statement, the appointment takes effect today, 16th January 2023, until a Substantive Rector is appointed.

“Igbinehi is to take over from Dr. Olarongbe Afolabi whose tenure as Acting Rector will expire on 16th January 2023," the statement read.

Igbinehi is the second Acting Rector to be appointed for the Polytechnic came after the completion of the tenure of the 4th Substantive Rector, Dr Lateef Olatunji on January 12, 2022

The Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State-born senior chief lecturer obtained a B. Ed in Mathematics at the University of Benin in 1985 and an M.Sc. in Mathematics in 1989 from the University of Lagos.

Until his appointment, Igbinehi was the longest-serving academic staff in the Polytechnic who joined the service in October 1992 and rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics on 1st July 2002.

He has served in positions including two times HOD of Mathematics & Statistics; Director of the School of Applied Sciences and Technology in 2006; Deputy Rector (Academics) from 2009 to 2011 and from 2011 to 2013; and Director of Academic Planning.

Igbinehi also pioneered the Chair of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), The Federal Polytechnic Offa Chapter.

AllNews Nigeria reports that ASUP had requested President Muhammadu Buhari to hasten the appointment of a substantive rector for the institution to ensure its smooth running and a good relationship among its stakeholders.
