There will be no Ballon d'Or for the 2019/2020 season which makes the last awardee, Lionel Messi the reigning holder of one of the most coveted individual awards in the world of football.
The coronavirus has taken a toll on football, certain changes in football have been seen such as five substitutes in a match, cooling breaks, empty stadium, face masks by match officials and coaching staff, postponement of certain national tournaments.
The Ballon d'Or is the latest victim of the virus outbreak that has plagued millions of individuals and the economy of countries over the world.
The French news magazine France Football that gives the award would release further statements but for now, there would not be a ceremony or an award for the year 2020.
