Ogboni Leader Speaks On ‘Denying Yoruba Nation’

Ogboni Leader Speaks On ‘Denying Yoruba Nation’

Tajudeen Bakare, the head of Ogboni group, who was arrested in July during the Yoruba Nation rally in Ojota, Lagos, has narrated his experience.

Bakare explained that he was misconstrued in the video where he was speaking with journalists during police parade of arrested crime suspects. In the viral clip, he had said police mistook him and his group members for Yoruba Nation agitators.

“It is not that I changed my narration. I said another thing different from my first declaration because of what I experienced while in police custody,” Bakare said in a recent interview with BBC News Yoruba.

“It wouldn’t be nice to see someone like me who is fighting for my people’s rights to lose his life cheaply. I am still resolute in my belief about Yoruba Nation.

“Had what happened to me between the 3rd of July and 4th of August that the police kept me in prison occurred to any other person, that individual would either lose his life or completely deny all he initially said.”
